Three people have been injured following a multiple vehicle smash at Cassillis.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident on the Golden Highway near Thompson Road at
11:30 this morning.
New South Wales Ambulance has confirmed it has treated three patients at the scene:
A man in 20’s with leg, arm and head injuries;
A second man with leg injuries; and
A woman with unknown injuries.
All are being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
Transport for NSW said the Golden Highway is closed in both directions. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
There is an alternative route available for motorists who need to travel, but the diversion will add at least three and a half hours to the trip.
Eastbound motorists can use Vinegaroy Road to Coolah, Black Stump Way, Purlewaugh Road and Coonabarabran Road to the Kamilaroi Highway at Quirindi, then the New England Highway to Willow Tree and Scone, then Bunnan Road & Scone Road to Merriwa.
Motorists travelling west can use the same diversion in reverse.
