Upper Hunter locals have been recognised in the annual Australi Day awards in the Upper Hunter.
In Singleton, the Citizen of the Year award was presented to Diana Thorning for her tireless volunteer work with Uniting Elizabeth Gates Village, the Singleton Branch of the Australian Red Cross, Singleton Tidy Towns, and as a foster carer.
Joss Davies was named as the town’s Young Achiever of the Year, recognising her commitment to PCYC Singleton, supporting local youth through the PCYC’s school holiday program, and her work with the Singleton Disability Advisory Committee.
In Muswellbrook, Dr. Mark Rikard Bell & Dr. Del Mullins accepted the Citizen of the Year award.
The doctors recognised for more than 40 years practicing medicine together in the town.
Charlise Anderson and Yasmin Jimmieson shared the YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR award.
Charlise is a school captain at Joeys, a student well-being leader, and a member of the Student Representative Council.
She also studies ballet.
Yasmin awarded for her perseverance, positive outlook, and passion for service above self, is a positive role model for young women and a leader.
She has held numerous leadership positions within the SES, is a dedicated instructor with the Australian Air Force Cadets, and has attended leadership programs including Burn Bright National Leadership Camp and Rotary Youth.
In the Upper Hunter Shire, Jim Callinan was recognised as the Citizen of the Year.
Described as a cornerstone of the local community after a 41-year tenure in broadcasting and tireless dedication to local charities.
Upper Hunter Shire Council said Jim’s commitment to initiatives like the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service highlights his significant impact and the communal values they cherish.
Charlie Milton was named the Upper Hunter Shire’s Young Citizen of the Year after making her mark in sport and academia.
Charlie is an exceptional rugby player and will enter the 2024 school year as captain at Scone High.
