War has been declared on Merriwa.

That’s the view of local councillor Troy Stolz after the Mayor sent a letter to Hunter MP Dan Repacholi stating Upper Hunter Shire Council may be forced to close the Gummun Place Hostel nursing home.

It was in response to an email from Councillor Stolz to Federal Aged Care Minister Annika Wells.

Councillor Stolz said the letter to Mr Repacholi is very disappointing for the local community.

The councillor also questioned why the Mayor has not reached out to Federal Aged Care Minister Annika Wells seeking help for Merriwa’s Gummun Place Hostel.

Mayor Maurice Collison had previously written to Federal Health Minister Mark Butler and New England MP Barnaby Joyce.
