Disability Support Worker

As a Support Worker you will provide culturally appropriate and inclusive support services to people with disability in their home and within the local community. The purpose of the role is to promote and maintain a persons independence and enhance their quality of life, through the provision of services that are tailored to their individual needs. This will include tasks such as: • Delivery of meals with an understanding of safe food handling, • Assist people with personal care, • Home duties – cleaning, washing, vacuuming etc, • Transport to appointments, • Assist people to take prescribed medication • Assist people to participate in leisure and social activities of choice.

clock-o Hours vary, currently shifts are rostered between 730am and 6:30pm

Skills Required

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the demonstrated ability to communicate with people with a disability, their carers, family, staff and a range of service providers. - Demonstrated ability to work independently and report accurately to supervisor. - Be solution focused, positive, resilient and have a capacity to respond effectively to challenges. - Understand and effectively use computers and smart phones. Be able to use rostering apps, email software and other programs as required on your phone, computer or tablet. - Be able to identify and respond to risks and hazards within your role. - Be able to promote a person-centered culture of choice inclusion and empowerment
