The Singleton community has woken this morning hoping it was all a bad dream.
Tragically it’s an horrendous reality….. ten people killed in the bus crash at Greta late on Sunday night.
Mayor Sue Moore says it will take some time to sink in.
“Yesterday was such a shock. It’ll continue today, it’ll continue tomorrow, it’ll continue for week,” she said.
The passengers were on the way home from the wedding of local couple Mitchell and Madeleine Gaffney (nee Edsell).
While the names of the victims have not been formally released….several of the deceased have been identified by some media outlets.
At least three of them are players from the Singleton Roosters AFL Club.
The bride and groom have been long time members.
The local AFL Hunter Central Coast competition administrators have asked for media and community to respect the Roosters need for privacy at this time.
Tributes have started flowing from other clubs.
The Muswellbrook Cats saying “they would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Singleton Roosters and all those involved and impacted by the tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.”
The Terrigal Avoca Panthers adding “they are shocked by the tragic news that involved Singleton Roosters players. Our deepest sympathies go out to family and friends who have lost loved ones.”
