An Upper Hunter Shire Councillor said Cassilis residents want to de-couple their water issues from nearby Merriwa.
Deputy Mayor Pat Ryan successfully moved a motion for the council to investigate if the bore supplying the town off the Golden Highway has been compromised.
Fellow Councillor Troy Stolz unsuccessfully tried to extend the action to include Merriwa.
