Fingers crossed after lobbying trip to Canberra

Muswellbrook Mayor Jeff Drayton is hoping to confirm funding commitments for the Upper Hunter from Federal Labor and the Coalition before the end of this month.

The councillor was part of a six-mayor Hunter region delegation to spend the past two days in Canberra lobbying the politicians ahead of the upcoming national election.

The group attended 14 meetings in 48 hours including the offices of the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton.

He said Muswellbrook Shire needs urgent help from the Commonwealth as it faces several mine closures within five years.
