The majority of Merriwa ratepayers who responded to the question about de-amalgamat8ing from Upper Hunter Shire have said they want to leave.
The council posted out letters to 1700 residents of the town to ask them what they thought.
141 responses were sent in with 92 stating they wanted to go it alone again like they did before 2004.

The responses will now be sent to the Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig for his consideration.
