The Mayor of Muswellbrook has thrown full support behind his Deputy Jennifer Lecky following our stories yesterday on her de-registration as a tax agent.
The Hunter Valley Newsroom attempted to contact Mrs Lecky several times for a response but instead, her council colleague Steve Reynolds issued a ‘Mayoral Statement’ defending her.
This is despite the Hunter Valley Newsroom not questioning her role as an elected official.
Councillor Reynolds said he became aware of the private matter in April and there is no reason for her to not continue performing her council duties. This follows him obtaining legal advice on the matter.
He said clients caught up in an investigation by the tax office have been advised in writing about her de-registration for professional misconduct.
The Australian Government’s Tax Practitioners Board de-registered Jennifer Lecky after an investigation into 37 tax returns she had lodged on behalf of 25 local clients.
The board found she had failed to act honestly and with integrity by making false and misleading statements.
