New leader in Upper Hunter Shire vote count

Evidence of a big mood for change on Upper Hunter Shire Council continues to mount after day three of counting following Saturday’s election.

Murrurundi independent candidate Peter McGill has now moved three votes ahead of incumbent Mayor Maurice Collison to lead the vote count.

They are followed by Scone’s George Fraser and Troy Stolz from Merriwa.

Merriwa’s Pat Ryan has also leapfrogged Allison McPhee and former Deputy Mayor James Burns.

McPhee is now the most likely to miss out on a place along with Blandford’s Chris Richards with just postal votes left to count.

Jeff Drayton continues to lead the vote count after day three of counting for the Muswellbrook Shire Council Election.

The former mining union official’s group is sitting on 1633 votes with the De-anne Douglas group next up with 1201.

Local Newsagency and Pizza shop owner Rohit Mahajan has now surged ahead of the Max Morris group.

He’s now collected 768 votes and while the six-person Morris group has a combined total of 693.

Danny Thompson has moved to be just 1090 votes behind Sue Moore for the Singleton Mayor’s job.

At the close of counting last night Mrs Moore had collected 6084 primary votes.

Mr Thompson is sitting on 4,994 and Labor’s Peree Watson 2,441.

But when it comes to the nine vacant councillor positions Moore and Thompson are both equal on 3004 votes.
