New South Wales Farmers has angrily hit back at claims they called for Merriwa to de-amalgamate from Upper Hunter Shire.
Councillor James Burns successfully moved a motion at the last council meeting to conduct community consultation on the issue.
He used a recent move by the organisation’s Merriwa branch, at their annual conference, to call for a review of all councils across the state who were forced to amalgamate.

But Policy and Advocacy Head Kathy Rankin said they have never suggested Merriwa go it alone again.
