The Office of Health Minister Ryan Park has agreed to meet with nurses from Muswellbrook Hospital over the $15-million cost overrun on the facility’s redevelopment project.
Nurses staged a rally outside the facility yesterday afternoon protesting the removal of new operating theatres and sterilisation area from the plans.
Local nurses union rep Peggy Smith told the rally…. this could lead to the loss of the services, which would impact more than just Muswellbrook.
Around 40 people including community members attended the rally outside the hospital.
The rally was also told the current operating theatres will not pass accreditation by the end of this year.
Nurses union member Catherine Black said the regulator won’t approve using the 70’s style theatre facilities for much longer.
