A controversial solar and battery farm proposal near Singleton dominated questions from the floor at a Council election forum.

An estimated 50 people attended the Meet the Candidates Forum organised by Business Singleton last night.

Many were from Mitchell’s Flat, which currently has the threat of a large renewable energy project from Elgin Energy over their farms and heads.

The 11 candidates in attendance all said they were against the proposed location in response to a question from the floor.

A comment by Councillor Godfrey Adamsthwaite raised the ire of many in the crowd when he stated “there was no urgency needed because it had a long way to go”

Another resident also asked the eight candidates, who didn’t attend a public meeting on the issue last week, why they didn’t and will they support their campaign to stop the solar farm program going ahead.

Various reasons were given in response including prior engagements, work commitments and illness.
