Turnbull says hydro power still years away here

The company behind a possible pumped hydro power project here in the Upper Hunter has indicated it will be many years before it starts operating if it goes ahead.

Upper Hunter Hydro, headed by former PM Malcolm Turnbull, has been awarded a contract to take the proposal to the next level after a competitive tender process.

The company will now explore the feasibility of a pumped hydro power plant using water from Glenbawn Dam near Scone and Glennies Creek Dam near Singleton.

Mr Turnbull has told the Hunter Valley Newsroom…he can’t say exactly when the project could be delivered.

“I’m not going to give time estimates or dollar estimates at this early stage because you know whatever you forecast you’re going to be wrong,” Mr Turnbull said.
