Upper Hunter mine facing $30,000 fine

An Upper Hunter coal mine is facing a $30,000 fine for allowing untreated water flow into the Hunter River’s catchment earlier this year.

The NSW EPA says saline mine water from Hunter Valley Operations “intermittently” flowed into Farrells Creek between June 13 and 22.

An estimated 523 kilolitres made its way into the river.
