Upper Hunter nurses say they have hit a new breaking point because of increasing demand and fewer staff as they continue their long-running fight for a new 15 percent pay deal.
The frontline health professionals walked off the job at 7 o’clock this morning for 24 hours so they can attend a protest rally outside Parliament House in Sydney.
NSW Nurses and Midwives Association Muswellbrook delegate Peggy Smith said many unskilled jobs now pay more than nursing.
The State Government is encouraging the community to stay away from Upper Hunter hospitals today unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
