An urgent call has gone out for help to keep a Merriwa nursing home operating.
Upper Hunter Shire Council revealed last week that Gumman Place Hostel is being subsidised by ratepayers to the tune of $400,000 a year.
The Mayor, Maurice Collison has written to the Federal Government requesting immediate and ongoing financial help.

Meantime the council’s General Manager Greg McDonald will meet with the members of the hostel’s former 355 advisory committee this morning.
The gathering is part of the process to seek expressions of interest to take over the running of the home.
